George Will was the keynote speaker and got BOOed when he tried to convince the audience to support John McCain on immigration. After the dinner, it was overheard in the crowd: "I never in my life thought I'd see the day George Will would get booed at CPAC!"

He's not a "Tom" conservative -- you know, Tancredo, DeLay ... If you want to win over this crowd, better bash Mexicans and blame the vast left-wing conspiracy for your dubious (to put it kindly) ethics.

With The Anchorman out of the race, I doubt I'll have much use for H2 anymore, so savor his delicious postmortem of the Romney campaign:

Governor Romney is an incredibly gifted man --intelligent in the way very few people are, charismatic, and blessed with an amiable openness and determined, strong character.

He is a good man, and his very successful run towards the presidency is a testament to his talents.  His magnificent family represents an achievement in the private sphere that he shares with Ann Romney and which was reflected in his accomplishments in business, at the Olympics and in Massachusetts.

Because he is a very good man,  a great conservative and an extraordinary patriot he is standing aside to allow Senator McCain's national campaign to commence.

McCain betrayed his fellow POWs by leaving them in Vietnam and Russia to be tortured and to die.  McCain betrayed his injured wife to get on with a rich woman with political ties.  McCain has betrayed the American Constitution by abridging Americans’ right to free speech.  McCain has betrayed justice by shooting down Conservative judges nominated by Bush.

McCain has betrayed his nation by forcefully encouraging the invasion of the USA by a foreign enemy. McCain has betrayed the American people by opposing tax reduction.  McCain has defied the welfare of American citizens by refusing to defend us from domestic enemies.  McCain has betrayed his party time and time again by acting like and voting like a Democrat.

The CPAC faithful were equally unsubtle:

"It is like now I have to choose between the left and the radical left," said Jeffrey Goldberg, a Michigan Republican and Romney supporter. "John McCain's appearance here will be like David Duke going before the NAACP."

Hey, if Rush Limbaugh wants to play dirty, I'm game. Earlier today Limbaugh said McCain was out to "destroy" the Republican Party. The morbidly obese, thrice-divorced, pill-popping blabbermouth went on to question the former POW's character.

Among the reasons "movement conservatives" list for rejecting McCain:

*McCain-Feingold, campaign finance legislation signed into law by ... George W. Bush.

*McCain-Kennedy, the controversial immigration compromise supported by ... George W. Bush.

Of course, McCain was never a figurehead CEO. And he's got this thing against torture.

Perhaps he could score points with the partisans by acting more scripted.

Lower than you'd imagine. Romney supporter Paul Weyrich, an influential conservative activist, has suggested that McCain is a real-life "Manchurian candidate." Seriously.

He has now taken to suggesting that John McCain is a Communist spy working at the bidding of some geriatric cabal of Vietnamese Communists. "The Cambodian Khmer Rouge has claimed that 'McCain is a Vietnamese agent,' for what it's worth," writes Weyrich.

Weyrich quotes various conspiratorial websites (which I will not link to) and then says, there's got to be some reason so many people think McCain is a "traitor."
