Observe the White House communications team in action:

Bush favors Romney as vice-president, reports Fred Barnes, the same Fred Barnes who penned the Bush valentine, "Rebel-in-Chief." (Sample passage: "Success in at least laying the foundation for representative government in Iraq had many authors … but one in particular stands out. That's Bush.")

The next day, human GOP talking point Sean Hannity "interviews" Romney, who affirms his desire to be McCain's running mate.

“I think any Republican leader in this country would be honored to be asked to serve as the vice presidential nominee, myself included. Of course this is a nation which needs strong leadership. And if the nominee of our party asked you to serve with him, anybody would be honored to receive that call … and to accept it, of course.”

McCain hates Romney, of course, but picking him might help assuage crotchety right wingers. I'd rather he told them to go fuck themselves.

The Anchorman refuses to go away, lurking in the shadows as the allegations against McCain play out.

Josh Romney, one of former Gov. Mitt Romney’s five sons, says it’s “possible” his father may rejoin the race for the White House, either as a vice presidential candidate or seek to become the Republican Party’s standard bearer if the campaign of Sen. John McCain falters…

He’s asked about speculation that given the McCain troubles his father might re-enter the Republican race either as a candidate for the top spot or as the party nominee’s vice presidential partner and Romney replies it’s “possible.” Then, he adds, “unlikely, but possible.”

Are pundits seriously floating Gov. H. Dumpty as a potential running mate for the Arizona senator? Strangely, yes.

Sonny hasn't done much to object to -- fact is, he hasn't done much at all, save for embarass himself and the state.

To be fair, he's no Zell Miller.

He may be out of the race, but Kathryn Jean Lopez of National Review Online still has a crush on The Anchorman:

Way too often in pop culture, men are portrayed as dopes; think about just about any sitcom. The dad/husband is portrayed as a doofus. What’s wrong with having somebody in public life who’s like Mitt Romney — a capable, experienced executive who loves his country and also happens to be a God-fearing father and husband? That’s not a bad thing for Americans to see. Forgive him for being easy on the eyes.

I bet Lopez was a big Lyle Waggoner fan.

Glenn Richardson is considered by some to be a rising star in the state GOP -- he does exhibit the necessary unethical hypocrisy:

House Speaker Glenn Richardson and his wife filed for divorce, completed the dissolution of their marriage and got court records of the proceedings sealed — all in a single afternoon last week. ...

The fast-track divorce defied normal procedures as it sped through the Paulding County Courthouse in Dallas, allowing Richardson to keep most details private, including any that might reflect on his performance as a public official.

In the spirit of open government, you should know that Richardson is accused of sleeping with a lobbyist while cosponsoring legislation that would benefit her employer. That would be adultery and a serious -- if not illegal -- conflict of interest. But at least he didn't screw another guy.

Richardson was a vocal supporter of a Constitutional Amendment to prohibit gay marriage in 2004. He'll probably blame the mere threat of same-sex unions for the dissolution of his marriage.

Conservative revisionists, led by Mitt Romney, are hailing his withdrawl from the GOP race as an act of patriotism.

I entered this race because I love America, and because I love America, I feel I must now stand aside, for our party and for our country.

In truth (a difficult concept for Romney to grasp), he suspended his campaign because he had no chance in hell of winning, even though he spent $40 million of his own money trying to get elected. Even though he had conservative blowhards running interference for him.

Romney whore Kathryn Jean Lopez thinks we all owe The Anchorman a debt of gratitude:

He didn't campaign for himself, he campaigned because he thought he was in a unique position to serve his country. Regardless of the primary results, I think you're going to see some of that service in the coming weeks, months, and years. And as I said yesterday, a conservative leader — who we may see on the trail again in 2012. I wish him luck. He has a lot to offer and conservatives who haven't should embrace him.

Yeah, just like his sons served America by working on his campaign.

NRO scribe John Derbyshire agrees with a supporter of Romney who writes:

Romney lost here for two reasons that are not mutually exclusive: class warfare and envy. People don't like him because he is richer, smarter, better-looking and more successful than they are, and so much so, that it is impossible for him to camouflage the difference. Oh, they will make claims such as religion or flip flops, but it's all hogwash. This is, of course, contrary to what conservatism ought to be, but it is in line with humanity as it is.

california decides something and nothing

CNN is reporting that McCain leads in EVERY California congressional district. The Golden State primary is not winner-take-all -- that is, unless, a candidate wins EVERY congressional district. That would be 173 delegates for McCain, in a closed primary, in the heart of Reagan country. Assuming the Arizona senator grabs a considerable majority of those delegates (if not all of them), it's over on the GOP side.

As for the Dems, it's only just begun, though Hillbot maintains a slim advantage.
