It's appropriate to point out Rudy Giuliani's flip-flips when it comes to gay issues (he was for equality before he was against it). But to do so using lame stereotypes only highlights the disconnect between many on the left and an increasing minority of gays (like yours truly) who don't take kindly to caricature.
It makes one wonder: are these so-called progressives truly interested in equality, or are they just using gays to win elections? If they view homosexuals so ineffectually, why would they care if we had rights or not? Hell, I wouldn't be motivated to fight for a bunch of whiny nellies (obviously that's how the creator of the "Gays for Giuliani" video linked above views us).
Republicans may be hostile to the gay vote, but what have Democrats done, other than take our money and make promises they don't intend to keep? We should've expected -- demanded -- the Democratically controlled Congress to overturn "Don't Ask, Don't Tell."
For one, it's in the nation's interest -- the military doesn't need to be expelling capable soliders during a time of war. It's a discriminatory policy. And it was the brainchild of a Democratic president. Who better to correct that mistake than Clinton's fellow Democrats?
But they did nothing (and not just when it came to gay issues). It's no surprise, and it will continue as long as queer voters remain content with being patronized.
